Oct 25th, 2008 | "Gulf Fritillary" Today I rode with my buddy James to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge for the Monarch Butterfly Festival. The morning started out cloudy and windy. We walked around down near the lighthouse for a while and met some of the people tagging and releasing monarchs. Then we headed up to the main part of the festival, where they had many exhibits. The Lincoln High School Horticulture Class had a bunch of native nectar plants for sale. Out of no where this Gulf Fritillary appeared and flew around the flowers that they brought. The teacher said that it must have just emerged from one of the chrysalises they brought. I got some good pictures of monarchs, but I like this one the best! |

About meI am a 26 year old broadcast engineer from Pensacola, FL. I was 14 when I bought my first real camera, a Canon AE-1 Program with a 50mm/1.4 and 135mm/3.5. I took photography in high school and college, learning about the technical aspects of photography as well as dark room processes. After high school, I wasn't taking as many pictures as I used to because of the cost of film and developing. A while later, I bought a point and shoot digital camera and started taking lots of pictures again. In October of '05 I bought a Rebel XT and really caught the bug again. I had been holding out for a while, waiting for the Canon 5D to be updated, but it got to the point where I needed a new camera. This May I purchased a 40D. I will be eventually buying a 5D but for now, I need to build up my lens collection.I have taken more photographs in the last 3 years than I have in my entire life before that. In addition to digital, I have also developed an interest in Polaroid photography, which is bad timing since Polaroid is discontinuing instant film. I am also looking into trying out medium format and possibly going back into b/w 35mm. I am working on getting better at photography and hope to one day possibly do this for more than just a hobby.LinksMy Polaroid PhotoblogMy personal website Future Home of My Design Website My Photo Projects Gallery
