Gulf Fritillary
Oct 25th, 2008 | "Gulf Fritillary"
Today I rode with my buddy James to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge for the Monarch Butterfly Festival. The morning started out cloudy and windy. We walked around down near the lighthouse for a while and met some of the people tagging and releasing monarchs. Then we headed up to the main part of the festival, where they had many exhibits. The Lincoln High School Horticulture Class had a bunch of native nectar plants for sale. Out of no where this Gulf Fritillary appeared and flew around the flowers that they brought. The teacher said that it must have just emerged from one of the chrysalises they brought. I got some good pictures of monarchs, but I like this one the best!
