Nov 15th, 2008 | "Great Blue Heron in Lo-Fi" Today Jas and I met up at Gulf Islands National Seashore: Naval Live Oaks. We went on a walk along the shore and followed this great blue heron for a while. I only brought along my 28-135mm which is horrible for birding. Jas let me borrow his Phoenix 500mm f8 mirror lens. It is a low quality, slow, hard to focus lens that give you noisy, soft focus, and poor color images with loads of falloff that look so incredibly Lo-Fi that they rock! The bokeh is outrageously horrible with the doughnuts of light floating around. I will say that this lens, even on my 40D would qualify as Lomo. I had to play with this image quite a bit to coax out anything decent, but I think that I succeeded in bringing out a picture that would be fitting for ANY late 70s photography book. This lens is so poor, that I actually love it! |

About meI am a 26 year old broadcast engineer from Pensacola, FL. I was 14 when I bought my first real camera, a Canon AE-1 Program with a 50mm/1.4 and 135mm/3.5. I took photography in high school and college, learning about the technical aspects of photography as well as dark room processes. After high school, I wasn't taking as many pictures as I used to because of the cost of film and developing. A while later, I bought a point and shoot digital camera and started taking lots of pictures again. In October of '05 I bought a Rebel XT and really caught the bug again. I had been holding out for a while, waiting for the Canon 5D to be updated, but it got to the point where I needed a new camera. This May I purchased a 40D. I will be eventually buying a 5D but for now, I need to build up my lens collection.I have taken more photographs in the last 3 years than I have in my entire life before that. In addition to digital, I have also developed an interest in Polaroid photography, which is bad timing since Polaroid is discontinuing instant film. I am also looking into trying out medium format and possibly going back into b/w 35mm. I am working on getting better at photography and hope to one day possibly do this for more than just a hobby.LinksMy Polaroid PhotoblogMy personal website Future Home of My Design Website My Photo Projects Gallery
